SIT Day and SIT Surge – Celebrations by Day, Partying into the Night

On 23 October 2013, the School of Information Technology (SIT) held its biggest event of the year to date. In order to celebrate being part of the SIT family, lecturers and students came together and organized the first-ever SIT Day!
For SIT students like myself, it was a day full of activities designed to get you on your feet.

Students could fight for superiority in a game of Laser Tag at “Laser Out Live”, or shop and play at several stalls  set up in the district known as the “Carnival”.  Students also voted and cheered for their friends and lecturers at the “SIT Icon” and the “Lecturer Star Awards”. They could also win attractive prizes in the Grand Lucky Draw!  In the photo below, SIT’s very sporting director, Mr Dennis Ang, even took part in a dunking machine for a good cause, as proceeds go to needy students.

As  the sun set, students from all schools gathered at the Auditorium for “SIT Surge”, a night dance party!

The Auditorium’s pre-function room was partitioned into two sections. One section became a reception for the eager crowd, and the other turned into the dance floor. The section was decorated in detail with light sticks, balloons and laser lights to set the right atmosphere.

DJ Will, the resident DJ at Zirca, was invited to spin music at this event. *from Facebook
The $5 ticket - $2 for early birds – sold out quickly. In addition to giving students access to the dance floor,  it also entitled them to a free flow of food and drinks. There was also a photo-booth where students could take lots of exciting and creative photographs with their friends.

Organised by the Celebration Department of the SIT Club, SIT Surge’s objective was to gather students of NYP, and let everyone have an opportunity to briefly escape from the responsibilities and stress of school work and just have fun.  They could enjoy themselves with food, music, and an endless night with their fellow poly mates.

Looking at the many sleep-deprived students who had to drag their feet to school the next day I can safely say they had a blast at SIT Surge!
